#OnThisDay - 6 December 2024

It was the 6 December 1924, #OnThisDay, exactly one hundred years ago, that George TURNER a World War I veteran, and a farmer by profession, married his love, Adelaide Harriet JAMES.

The couple married in Subiaco, and lived for a short time on a farm called “Aldersyde” in between Brookton and Pingelly. On the 11 September 1925, a little daughter was born to the couple – Lois Joyce TURNER. Economically times were tough, and the farm could not support George’s new family plus his siblings who also worked the land. So George had to seek work in Perth and he became a tram driver.

In March 1926 George and Adelaide Turner moved with Lois to their new home at 83 Shepperton Road, Victoria Park and later that same year a second daughter, Elizabeth Jean (Beth) TURNER was born. The couple would have three more children, but sadly none of these survived.

The Turner Family would go on to make Victoria Park their forever home, with Lois Turner marrying Cyril FARLEY in 1950, and starting their family which would eventually see three generations of the Farley family growing up and enjoying life at 120 Basinghall Street, East Victoria Park.
